Greetings fellow social entrepreneurs!
Are there any active Social Enterprise Alliance meetups out there? I'm the organizer for the Social Enterprise Alliance meetup in Chicago. Unfortunately, no one is attending at this time. I'm interested in learning if anyone else is having any luck with this forum. |

Welcome to a space of knowledge sharing designed to pioneer and devise action plans as a result of bridging the gap between capitalism and compassion.
If you are a non-profit leader interested in reducing your reliance on government, grant, and other traditional fundraising models; If you are a business person wondering how to give back to the community within the constraints of a competitive environment; If you are a community member interested in harnessing the power of capitalism for the greater good; Then welcome home! Compeitive businesses and non-profit organizations, it seems, have grown too separate. We believe, however, that these two organizational genres need not be mutually exclusive. For-profit entites serve clients or provide goods in order to make money. Non-profit entities, on the other hand, make money so that they can serve clients or provide goods. We propose a hybrid organization, more amenable to the consciousness of Americans in general and Bay Area residents in particular, where the serving of clients, production of goods, and making of money, efficiently and effectively work together to meet the needs of all individuals, from the upper middle class soccer mom seeking a unique Christmas gift, to the homeless men seeking only solace from the street. A "corporate citizen," or alternatively, "an earned income non-profit" serve one set of clients so that they can make money in order to serve a different set. |
